After Punchbowl News reporter Ally Mutnick cheerfully announced that Jeffries had hosted a “District Taco” lunch for Capitol Police and lawmakers “to show appreciation” during the ongoing government shutdown, the White House fired back with a savage twist.
Within hours, Trump’s media team posted an AI-generated video showing Schumer and Jeffries wearing oversized sombreros and holding taco plates — mocking them for “playing lunch politics” while millions of Americans are struggling through the shutdown.
The clip instantly exploded across social media, racking up millions of views in just hours. It’s part of a running joke that began earlier this month, when Trump posted similar AI memes with mariachi music, poking fun at Democrats’ “clownish leadership during a national crisis.”

But instead of laughing it off, Democrats are furious. Jeffries called the video “racist,” while Schumer complained that Trump was “undermining the dignity of public office.”
Conservatives, however, are loving it — calling it “classic Trump humor” that exposes just how out-of-touch Democratic leaders have become.
Even Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) joined in the fun, editing sombreros and mustaches onto 44 Senate Democrats and vowing to keep the joke going “until they reopen the government.”
