As the United States prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary, a senior Treasury official says discussions are underway about honoring President Donald Trump in a historic and symbolic way tied to the nation’s currency.
U.S. Treasurer Brandon Beach confirmed that he has proposed the creation of a $250 bill featuring President Trump as part of the upcoming semiquincentennial celebrations. The idea was shared during an interview with the Daily Caller News Foundation.
In his role, Beach oversees the production of U.S. currency and coinage, including supervision of the U.S. Mint and the nation’s gold reserves at Fort Knox. Before joining the Treasury Department, Beach served more than a decade as a Republican lawmaker in Georgia and was appointed by President Trump earlier this year.
According to Beach, the proposal would require congressional action. Current federal law restricts the placement of living individuals on U.S. paper currency, meaning lawmakers would need to amend existing statutes before any such bill could be produced.
If Congress approves the change and the legislation is signed into law, Beach said work on the $250 bill could begin immediately. The denomination would be among the largest ever issued for general circulation in modern U.S. history.
In addition to paper currency, Beach previously announced that designs are already underway for a new $1 coin featuring President Trump. That effort falls under the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act, which authorizes special coin designs to commemorate the nation’s 250th anniversary next July.
Beach emphasized that the Trump-themed $1 coin would be legal tender, meaning it could be used in everyday purchases and not limited to collectors.
The Treasury Department is also considering additional commemorative coin designs connected to major national milestones, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted primarily in U.S. cities.
Supporters say the proposals reflect both the historic significance of America’s 250th birthday and President Trump’s lasting role in modern U.S. history.
