Democrat Sides With Trump, Exposes Own Party

In a surprising moment of political candor, John Fetterman is once again breaking ranks with his own party.

The Pennsylvania Democrat said Sunday that fellow Democrats should be willing to support President Donald Trump if they truly believe Iran must never obtain nuclear weapons.

Fetterman’s remarks highlight growing tensions inside the Democratic Party as the Trump administration continues its aggressive strategy toward Tehran.

Fetterman Backs Trump’s Iran Strike

Speaking during an interview with radio host John Catsimatidis on WABC, Fetterman defended the U.S. military operation against Iran known as Operation Epic Fury.

According to the senator, the mission significantly damaged Iran’s nuclear program and weakened the regime’s ability to pursue nuclear weapons.

Fetterman said he was the only Democrat in the Senate to openly support the operation.

His message to fellow Democrats was simple: if they truly believe Iran is a dangerous adversary, they should acknowledge when actions are taken to stop its nuclear ambitions.

Fetterman Points to Kamala Harris’ Past Warning

To make his case, Fetterman reminded listeners that prominent Democrats have long warned about Iran’s threat to the United States.

He specifically referenced comments made by Kamala Harris during the 2024 presidential campaign.

During a “60 Minutes” interview at the time, Harris described Iran as America’s “greatest adversary.”

Fetterman argued that this past warning should make it easier for Democrats to acknowledge the success of the Trump administration’s military effort.

If Iran truly represents such a major threat, he said, weakening its nuclear capabilities should be seen as a positive development for global security.

“Why Can’t We Agree This Is Good?”

Fetterman questioned why partisan politics are preventing Democrats from recognizing results they have long claimed to want.

He suggested that if Operation Epic Fury has truly damaged Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, lawmakers on both sides of the aisle should be able to agree that the outcome benefits international stability.

The Pennsylvania senator also acknowledged that tensions in the Middle East could temporarily raise global energy prices.

However, he argued that a short-term increase in oil prices would be worth it if the operation ultimately prevents Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

Fetterman Slams Democrats Over DHS Funding Fight

The senator didn’t stop there.

Fetterman also criticized his own party over the ongoing political battle surrounding funding for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

He argued that allowing government funding fights to delay paychecks for security personnel is unfair to the workers responsible for protecting the country.

According to Fetterman, employees such as Coast Guard members and Transportation Security Administration agents should never become political bargaining chips in Washington.

“These people deserve to be paid for the work they do keeping Americans safe,” he said during the interview.

Only Democrat to Oppose DHS Shutdown

Fetterman emphasized that he stood alone among Senate Democrats in opposing a shutdown tied to the Department of Homeland Security funding dispute earlier this year.

He warned that withholding funding from key security agencies ultimately harms frontline workers rather than political leaders.

The funding fight has also caused operational problems at airports, where Transportation Security Administration officers have faced delayed pay during the dispute.

“We Used To Be the Party of Workers”

In one of the most striking parts of the interview, Fetterman suggested that Democrats may be drifting away from their traditional identity.

He noted that the party historically positioned itself as the defender of working Americans and union employees.

Yet, he argued, recent votes risking government shutdowns contradict that message by threatening the paychecks of federal workers.

“Don’t shut the government down,” Fetterman said. “We used to be the party that refused to do these things.”

His comments underline a growing divide within the Democratic Party over issues like national security, border enforcement, and government spending.

Growing Political Divide in Washington

Fetterman’s willingness to support the Trump administration’s Iran strategy highlights a broader shift taking place in Washington.

While many Democrats continue to criticize Trump’s aggressive approach to Iran, others appear increasingly open to acknowledging when policies align with longstanding U.S. security goals.

With tensions in the Middle East rising and debates over immigration and national security intensifying on Capitol Hill, the internal disagreements within the Democratic Party are becoming harder to ignore.

For now, Fetterman’s blunt message is likely to fuel further debate in Washington: when it comes to stopping Iran’s nuclear ambitions, should national security take priority over party politics?
