Trump’s Best Friend Injured On Football Field

Philadelphia Eagles superstar Saquon Barkley suffered a concerning hamstring injury Sunday, abruptly ending his afternoon against the Los Angeles Rams and raising questions about how much time the star running back could miss.

Barkley, who has previously made headlines for golfing and spending time with President Donald Trump, went down with an apparent injury to his right hamstring early in Philadelphia’s game against Los Angeles.

The Eagles ultimately ruled Barkley out for the remainder of the contest.

The injury occurred during the first quarter after Barkley completed a six-yard run. He appeared to experience discomfort in the back of his right leg before making his way to the Philadelphia sideline.

Team medical personnel quickly examined him inside the Eagles’ medical tent.

After remaining there for several minutes, Barkley headed to the locker room for further evaluation.

Philadelphia initially listed its star running back as questionable to return before announcing after halftime that his day was over.

Barkley Injury Raises Questions for Eagles

Any extended absence for Barkley could present a significant challenge for Philadelphia.

The 29-year-old running back has become one of the NFL’s most recognizable players and remains an important part of the Eagles’ offensive attack.

Philadelphia was already dealing with injuries and absences involving several other key offensive players entering Sunday’s matchup.

That made Barkley’s early departure another unwanted development for the Eagles.

There was at least one encouraging sign following the game.

NBC Sports Philadelphia reported that Barkley was seen walking normally while leaving the stadium, although the Eagles had not immediately announced the full severity of his injury.

Hamstring problems can range from relatively minor strains to injuries requiring considerably more recovery time, meaning additional evaluation will likely determine when Barkley can return.

Did Wet Conditions Play a Role?

The playing conditions are also receiving attention.

Sports medicine specialist Dr. David Chao, a former NFL team physician, suggested that the wet field may have contributed to Barkley’s apparent hamstring strain.

Chao has explained that slippery fields can sometimes reduce certain knee-injury risks because players’ cleats are less likely to become firmly locked into the playing surface.

However, slippery conditions may create other problems.

Players attempting to accelerate, stop or abruptly change direction can potentially place additional stress on muscles and other soft tissue.

That can include hamstring injuries such as the one Barkley appeared to suffer Sunday.

The exact cause of Barkley’s injury has not been officially determined, but the field conditions quickly became part of the discussion surrounding his early exit.

Barkley Has a Notable Connection With Trump

Barkley’s relationship with President Trump previously generated national attention.

In April 2025, Barkley spent time golfing with Trump at the president’s club in Bedminster, New Jersey. He later traveled aboard Air Force One as Trump returned to Washington.

Barkley subsequently attended the Eagles’ White House celebration following Philadelphia’s Super Bowl championship.

The NFL star faced criticism from some people over his interaction with Trump, but Barkley defended his decision.

He later explained that playing golf with a president should not automatically define someone’s political beliefs, pointing out that he had previously golfed with former President Barack Obama as well.

Trump has also publicly praised Barkley.

The unusual connection between one of America’s most prominent political figures and one of football’s biggest stars helped put Barkley in the national spotlight beyond the NFL.

Eagles Await More Information

For Philadelphia, politics and celebrity connections are secondary to the immediate concern surrounding Barkley’s health.

The Eagles will want their star running back available as quickly as possible as the NFL season continues.

Barkley finished Sunday’s game with eight rushing yards on two carries before leaving with the injury.

Philadelphia went on to lose 24-20 to Los Angeles, dropping the Eagles to 2-2 on the season.

The team had not immediately announced how long Barkley could be sidelined.

Until further testing provides a clearer answer, Eagles fans will be watching closely for the next update on one of the NFL’s biggest stars.
