Democrats are once again warning that President Donald Trump could “cancel” the next election—this time in 2028.
Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) claimed on CNN Tuesday that Trump’s latest remarks to military leaders show he’s preparing to stay in power indefinitely.
Trump’s Warning About “Enemies Within”
Speaking to America’s top military brass after Secretary of War Pete Hegseth’s address, President Trump warned about the threat of enemies “inside the United States.” He emphasized securing the homeland, protecting borders, and defending against internal dangers.
Supporters cheered the remarks as a strong stand on national security. But Democrats immediately sounded alarms, saying Trump was laying the groundwork to justify “emergency powers” in the future.
Epstein Files at the Center of the Storm
Goldman also tied the controversy to the long-suppressed “Epstein Files.” House Republicans refused to swear in Rep. Adelita Grijalva (D-AZ), preventing Democrats from getting the 218th vote needed to force the release of all Epstein-related documents.
Goldman accused Republicans of protecting Trump and unnamed allies, claiming that only a limited, “handpicked” set of files has been released so far.
“You don’t think for a second this isn’t about shielding Trump and his friends?” Goldman asked, suggesting that the GOP blocked Grijalva’s swearing-in to avoid embarrassment.
Democrats Push Authoritarian Narrative
Goldman went further, claiming that Trump is manufacturing crises to seize more authority. He argued that Trump could use border security or internal unrest as an excuse to declare that elections cannot be safely held.
“My view is that he’s looking at 2028,” Goldman warned. “He’ll say, ‘We can’t have an election under these conditions. The enemy is within.’”
CNN host Jim Acosta asked if Goldman really believed this scenario could happen. Goldman didn’t hesitate: “Yes. I think that’s where this is heading.”
Conservative Response: More Fearmongering
For conservatives, this sounds like déjà vu. Democrats and the media spent years insisting Trump was an “authoritarian”—yet no election was ever canceled, and Trump left office peacefully in 2021 despite endless investigations and smear campaigns.
Now, the Left appears to be reviving the same narrative as the 2028 race begins to take shape. Many believe this panic is less about Trump and more about distracting from the explosive Epstein Files—documents that could expose powerful figures across politics, finance, and entertainment.
