Crockett Spreads More Trump Lies

Rep. Jasmine Crockett, a Texas Democrat, recently made waves by asserting that illegally entering the United States is not a crime, but merely a “civil violation” during an appearance on MSNBC’s The Katie Phang Show. This statement has sparked outrage, particularly among those who view illegal immigration as a serious violation of U.S. law.

Crockett’s comments came as she discussed her participation in a House committee hearing about sanctuary city policies. She claimed that Republicans are unnecessarily alarmed about the influx of illegal immigrants and their supposed criminal activities, while conveniently ignoring the fact that illegal entry into the U.S. is not considered a criminal act. According to Crockett, this violation is simply a civil matter, not a criminal offense.

“Republicans seem so focused on the idea that immigrants are criminals, but what they aren’t telling the public is that entering the country without proper documentation is a civil violation, not a crime,” Crockett argued. She contended that local law enforcement should be focused on serious crimes like murder, robbery, and sexual abuse, rather than rounding up people for a civil violation like illegal entry.

However, the law clearly defines illegal entry into the U.S. as a federal misdemeanor under 8 USC 1325. First-time offenders can face fines and up to six months in prison. Repeat offenders may be subject to more severe penalties, including fines and up to two years in prison. Furthermore, illegal immigrants who reenter the U.S. after being removed can face up to 10 years in prison if they have committed multiple misdemeanor offenses or up to 20 years if convicted of a felony.

Crockett also criticized Republicans for supporting immigration raids while continuing to back President Trump, whom she labeled “the biggest criminal” to ever occupy the White House. She accused them of hypocrisy, saying, “Don’t give me this fake outrage about criminals roaming our streets when you guys stand 10 toes down for the biggest criminal that we have ever seen go into the White House.”

Her remarks reflect the growing tension between Democratic and Republican perspectives on immigration, with conservatives continuing to push for stronger enforcement of immigration laws to protect American citizens and uphold the rule of law. Crockett’s insistence on minimizing the severity of illegal entry clashes directly with the views of those who believe that border security and lawful immigration are fundamental to preserving the safety and integrity of the nation.
