In a shocking move, the City of Glendale, California, has ended its longstanding partnership with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), sparking outrage from federal officials who say local leaders are choosing to protect criminal illegal immigrants over the safety of law-abiding American citizens.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is sounding the alarm. Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin called the decision “deeply disturbing,” especially as violent protests, arson, and looting continue to rock downtown Los Angeles.
“Glendale’s sanctuary politicians just sided with gang members, rapists, and violent criminals,” McLaughlin said. “They’ve abandoned the people they were elected to protect.”
Trump Responds with Force: Thousands of National Guard Deployed
President Donald Trump isn’t waiting for California politicians to act. The administration has deployed an additional 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles, bringing the total to nearly 5,000 federal forces, including 700 U.S. Marines.
The move comes as ICE ramps up the largest deportation operation in U.S. history, targeting criminal illegal aliens across California.
Meanwhile, far-left California Governor Gavin Newsom is fighting the federal response. His office claims the Guard deployment is unconstitutional and has filed a lawsuit to block it, calling the operation “politically motivated.”
Trump pushed back hard, telling reporters: “We’re restoring law and order. If Newsom won’t do it, we will.”
Glendale Ends 15-Year ICE Agreement During Riots and Arrests
Despite rampant street violence, the City of Glendale announced it would terminate a 15-year agreement allowing ICE to hold detainees at the Glendale Police Department. The facility provided in-person and virtual visitation for detainees and access to legal counsel.
City leaders admitted this decision could hurt families and reduce legal access, but claimed it was made to ease public backlash.
McLaughlin responded: “They didn’t just cancel a contract—they sent a message to every criminal in the country that California is wide open.”
The facility will now be reserved exclusively for local use. Officials stressed that Glendale police do not enforce federal immigration laws and remain in compliance with the California Values Act, which limits cooperation with ICE.
Democrats Side with Protesters, ICE Denies “Basement Detention” Rumors
Over the weekend, chaotic protests broke out following coordinated ICE raids. Activists spread rumors that detainees were being secretly held in a federal building’s basement. ICE has strongly denied those claims.
Despite this, Democrats continue fanning the flames, demanding federal law enforcement back off. Nationwide protests are being planned, and tensions are rising across major cities.
Trump vs. Newsom: The Political Battle Escalates
President Trump and Governor Newsom are now in a high-stakes war of words. Trump backed his top immigration adviser Tom Homan’s recent suggestion that Newsom should be arrested for obstructing federal law.
“I’d do it if I were Tom,” Trump said. “It would be great.”
Newsom fired back on social media, calling the suggestion a step toward “authoritarianism.” He wrote on X: “This is a line we cannot cross—Democrat or Republican.”
But many Americans see it differently. With violent mobs destroying cities, and politicians siding with criminals, the message from Trump’s DHS is clear: “You will not stop us. ICE will enforce the law.”
