GOP Destroys Schumer

WASHINGTON, D.C. — New York Republican Congressman Mike Lawler is calling out Senate Democrat Leader Chuck Schumer for what he says is blatant hypocrisy over vehicle-related taxes—highlighting the growing disconnect between Democrat leadership and working Americans.

Lawler’s fiery criticism came after Schumer posted a dramatic video online, ridiculing Republicans for proposing a modest $20 annual vehicle fee aimed at helping maintain roads and bridges. In the video, Schumer—visibly agitated—mocked the proposal, declaring, “Of all the crazy things Republicans want to do, now they want a car tax?! Hell no!”

But Rep. Lawler wasn’t having it. He quickly fired back on social media, pointing out that Schumer fully supports New York City’s controversial congestion pricing plan—one that slaps a $9 daily toll on drivers just for entering Manhattan below 60th Street.

“I’m against the car tax. I’m also against congestion pricing, which you support!” Lawler said. “The car tax would cost drivers $20 a year. Congestion pricing? That’s up to $2,500 a year just to drive into your own city.”

Lawler didn’t hold back, accusing Schumer of being “completely full of it.”

New York’s congestion pricing plan, which began in January, is the first of its kind in the United States and has sparked outrage among commuters, small business owners, and retirees alike. Backed by the Biden administration, the program charges:

  • $9 for cars during peak hours
  • $14.40 for small trucks
  • $21.60 for large trucks
  • Additional surcharges for drivers without E-ZPass

Even electric and hybrid vehicle owners aren’t spared. Under the plan, EVs would face a $200 yearly registration fee, while hybrids would be hit with $100 annually—all while being told they’re saving the planet.

Critics say the real goal isn’t traffic relief—it’s raising revenue. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) expects to rake in $15 billion, supposedly for infrastructure improvements, but many remain skeptical the funds will be used responsibly.

President Trump has strongly condemned the tolling scheme, calling it a cash grab that hurts working families, truckers, and small businesses. His administration has taken legal action to stop the plan in its tracks, warning New York Governor Kathy Hochul that the state risks losing billions in federal highway funding if it refuses to comply.

For many conservatives and everyday Americans, the battle over congestion pricing represents a broader fight—against big-government overreach, Democrat double standards, and policies that punish the middle class while claiming to save the environment.
