Florida State Senator Ileana Garcia, a proud Republican and co-founder of Latinas for Trump, is speaking out with rare criticism—not of President Trump himself—but of how certain immigration enforcement tactics are being applied under the current administration.
In a strongly worded post on X (formerly Twitter), Garcia stated:
“This is not what we voted for. I have always supported President Trump, @realDonaldTrump, through thick and thin. However, this is unacceptable and inhumane.”
Garcia reaffirmed her support for President Trump’s commitment to border security and law enforcement, but raised concern that some within the federal apparatus may be carrying out deportation operations in ways that violate due process.
Concern Over Targeting Law-Abiding Immigrants
While she backed the removal of criminal illegal aliens, Garcia criticized what she described as “arbitrary measures” that are impacting individuals who are actively complying with legal immigration hearings and seeking asylum due to credible fears of persecution in their home countries.
She drew a sharp contrast between legitimate enforcement and what she called an unnecessary “hunt” for those following the law—warning that such actions could undermine the American sense of fairness and justice that conservatives hold dear.
Echoing Fellow Republicans on Due Process
Garcia voiced support for Rep. María Elvira Salazar, another Florida Republican, who recently warned that overly aggressive immigration raids have “left thousands exposed to deportation” and threaten the core democratic principle of due process.
“As the daughter of Cuban refugees—and as the state senator representing Rep. Salazar’s district—I must speak up,” Garcia said. “Our families fled communist tyranny, and we believe in strong borders—but we also believe in American justice.”
Trump’s Leadership Still Strong—but Accountability Matters
Garcia was careful to clarify that her criticism is not directed at President Trump personally, but at how certain officials may be misapplying policies intended to target dangerous individuals—not families who are playing by the rules.
Her statement is a call for accountability and balance, not retreat. She remains a staunch supporter of President Trump and his mission to restore law and order at the southern border.
As immigration remains a defining issue for the 2024 election cycle, Republican leaders like Garcia are reminding Americans that security and compassion can coexist—but must always respect the rule of law and the dignity of freedom-loving people.
