First Lady Melania Trump announced on Wednesday that the White House will once again open to the public later this month for the first time during President Trump’s second term. After a pause in public tours following the transition of power, the tours will resume on February 25th.
Melania expressed her excitement about allowing the American people and visitors to experience the White House, which she described as a symbol of American history and values. She highlighted that the White House provides an invaluable opportunity to learn about the presidency, the First Familys who have resided there, and the country’s rich history. The First Lady emphasized that this tradition is a unique feature of the United States and something her family is proud to continue.
The public tours will offer access to important rooms within the White House, such as the Vermeil Room, the Library, the Blue, Red and Green Room, and the Dining Room. Visitors will also have a chance to view the J. Kennedy Garden, a beautiful and historic part of the White House grounds.
Individuals interested in taking a tour can request one through their Congressional representatives for 3 months in advance. The tours are self-guided, free of charge, and last around 45 minutes. They will be available Tuesday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and Friday and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Secret Service agents will be stationed along the route to offer additional information about the history of the rooms and how they are being used by the current administration.
In addition to her duties as First Lady, Melania has said that she plans to split up her time from Washington, New York, and Palm Beach to be close to her son Barron, who is attending New York University. She has made it clear that her top priorities remain being a mother, a wife, and fulfilling her role as First Lady.
