Newsom Attacks Catholics, GOP Steps In

California Governor Gavin Newsom is under fire for what many are calling a shocking anti-Christian attack, following a deadly school shooting at a Minnesota Catholic school that claimed the lives of two young children and injured 17 others during morning Mass.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) blasted Newsom in his first press conference since Congress returned from recess, accusing the Democrat governor of mocking people of faith at the very moment families were mourning.

“Two innocent children were murdered. More than a dozen others were hospitalized,” Johnson said with visible anger. “Instead of compassion, Gavin Newsom sneered at those who turn to God for comfort in their darkest hour. It’s sickening and morally bankrupt. The only hope for Gavin Newsom is prayer.”

The Post That Sparked Outrage

The controversy began when White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt condemned MSNBC host and former Biden press secretary Jen Psaki for belittling Americans offering “thoughts and prayers” instead of pushing for gun control.

Newsom jumped into the heated debate with a cutting response on X, “These children were literally praying as they got shot at.”

Conservatives say Newsom’s comment went beyond politics, striking at the heart of America’s faith communities. Johnson called it “a disgraceful attempt to score political points on the graves of children.”

GOP: Focus on Safety and Mental Health, Not Politics

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN), whose home state is now reeling from the attack, blamed Democratic policies for creating an environment of chaos and rising violence.

“The path forward is to fix America’s broken mental health system and give law enforcement the tools they need to fight crime — just as President Trump has done here in Washington,” Emmer declared.

Republicans are emphasizing solutions that empower families and protect faith-based schools, rather than punishing law-abiding gun owners.

Democrats Push Gun Control Instead of Prayer

While conservatives offered prayers and calls for unity, Democrats immediately pivoted to pushing stricter gun control.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey (D) said, “Don’t just say this is about thoughts and prayers. These kids were literally praying.”

Top Democrats Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries echoed that message, demanding sweeping new federal gun laws — a move strongly opposed by House conservatives and President Trump’s administration.

A Nation Divided

The clash highlights a deepening divide between the Left’s war on religious freedom and conservatives’ fight to protect faith, families, and schools.

For millions of Christians across the country, Newsom’s attack on prayer is a wake-up call. As Johnson warned, “America is facing a profound moral decay, and prayer is more necessary now than ever.”

With the 2026 midterms looming, this battle over faith, freedom, and safety is shaping up to be one of the defining political fights of President Trump’s second term.

Why This Matters:

  • Faith-based schools are under attack – literally and politically.
  • Democrats are exploiting tragedy to push their agenda.
  • Conservatives must unite to defend religious freedom and common-sense safety reforms.
