Obama Still Profiting Off Presidency

Barack Obama is once again leveraging his time in office for personal gain—this time through a new comedy series on HBO, partnering with left-wing comedian Larry David in a project aimed at reshaping America’s historical narrative.

The premium cable network announced plans for a six-episode sketch comedy series that will coincide with the 250th anniversary of the United States. The show is being developed with Higher Ground, the media production company founded by Barack and Michelle Obama—a business venture that has already raked in millions through Netflix, Spotify, and Hollywood deals.

Larry David, best known for Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm, will write, star in, and executive produce the series. His longtime collaborator Jeff Schaffer will co-write and direct. According to HBO, the show is expected to blend satire with historical commentary—a mix that raises eyebrows for many Americans concerned about political bias in mainstream media.

Obama, attempting humor, said, “I’ve sat across from some of the world’s most difficult leaders. Nothing has prepared me for working with Larry David.”

This collaboration marks one of the Obamas’ most public-facing entertainment ventures yet. Their previous productions include the left-leaning documentary American Factory and the Netflix film Leave the World Behind, which critics slammed for its bleak, politically charged messaging.

David, now 78, released a bizarre press statement, joking about losing his beehive and being forced back into television. For many viewers, this kind of tone-deaf humor feels more like Hollywood self-indulgence than patriotic celebration.

HBO summed up the concept with a quip: “President and Mrs. Obama wanted to honor America’s 250th anniversary… but then Larry David called.”

While the network has yet to announce a premiere date, one thing is clear: instead of stepping back from the spotlight, the Obamas are using their platform to shape cultural conversations—and cash in—under the guise of comedy.
