The radical wing of the Democratic Party just gained a powerful new ally. Former Vice President Kamala Harris has officially endorsed Zohran Mamdani, a far-left New York City mayoral candidate and outspoken ally of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC).
Harris made the announcement Monday night on MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show, giving Mamdani’s campaign a major last-minute boost ahead of the November 4th general election.
Kamala Harris Throws Her Weight Behind Socialist Candidate
When Maddow directly asked Harris if she supported Mamdani, Harris didn’t hold back:
“Look, as far as I’m concerned, he’s the Democratic nominee, and he should be supported.”
This comes as Mamdani’s campaign skyrockets in the polls, with prediction markets now giving him an 85% chance of victory. Harris’ endorsement signals that the Democratic Party’s radical left is consolidating power — even as moderate Democrats grow increasingly alarmed.
Democrats Divided: Schumer and Jeffries Stay Silent
While Harris jumps on board, top New York Democrats like Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries are staying publicly neutral, a sign of serious fractures within the party.
New York Democratic Party Chairman Jay Jacobs went even further, blasting Mamdani’s agenda and condemning his anti-Israel stance:
“I strongly disagree with his views on the State of Israel and the platform of the so-called ‘Democratic Socialists of America.'”
This sharp divide highlights the battle for control between progressive activists and more traditional Democratic leaders.
Mamdani Surges as Adams Stays in the Race
Ironically, Mayor Eric Adams’ decision to stay in the race has only strengthened Mamdani’s odds.
Recent polling shows Mamdani dominating:
- CBS News/YouGov: Mamdani 43%, Cuomo 28%
- Marist: Mamdani 45%, Cuomo 24%
- Quinnipiac: Mamdani 45%, Cuomo 23%
- Emerson College: Mamdani 43%, Cuomo 28%
- NYT/Siena: Mamdani 46%, Cuomo 24%
However, in a one-on-one showdown with former Governor Andrew Cuomo, Mamdani’s lead drops to just 4 points — suggesting many voters simply want to block his socialist agenda.
Trump Issues Warning About ‘Communist Takeover’
President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to sound the alarm about Mamdani’s rise:
“New York Governor Kathy Hochul has thrown her support behind Zohran Mamdani, whom I call the ‘Liddle Communist,’ in the mayoral race. This is a stunning move — and terrible news for the future of New York City.”
Trump has urged moderate and conservative voters to unite against Mamdani, but so far neither Adams nor Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa has agreed to drop out.
Bernie Sanders and AOC Rally the Far-Left Base
On the other side, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) is mobilizing progressives to flood the polls:
“The elites are in full panic mode. They’ll pour endless amounts of money into trying to stop Zohran Mamdani — but while they have the cash, we have the power of the people.”
If Mamdani wins, it would expand AOC’s influence beyond Congress, giving the Democratic Socialists of America direct control over America’s largest city.
The Stakes: NYC’s Future on the Line
With less than six weeks until Election Day, Harris’ endorsement could pressure other Democrats to fall in line.
A Mamdani victory would mark a seismic shift to the left, potentially unleashing policies that could reshape New York City — from defunding the police to higher taxes and aggressive climate mandates.
Conservatives warn that this race isn’t just about New York — it’s a test case for the entire nation as the far-left pushes to take its radical agenda mainstream.
Do you think New York City will reject socialism — or fall deeper under AOC’s radical influence?
