Vice President JD Vance is making it clear that his personal friendship with Tucker Carlson will survive political disagreements — including Carlson’s increasingly public clashes with President Donald Trump.
During a White House briefing, Vance acknowledged that Carlson has made comments about Trump that he believes are wrong. However, the vice president defended maintaining the friendship and argued that Americans should not automatically abandon friends simply because they disagree politically.
The comments come at an interesting moment for the Republican Party.
Carlson has become a vocal critic of several Trump administration policies and has clashed with other prominent Republicans. Some conservatives have consequently urged Vance to put greater distance between himself and the former Fox News host.
Vance has chosen another approach.
