Democrats are furious as President Donald Trump takes swift action to protect Americans from violent unrest erupting in liberal-run Los Angeles.
Schumer Calls National Guard a “Distraction”—But Video Tells Another Story
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., accused President Trump of using the National Guard deployment in California as a diversion from legislative delays and political headlines involving Elon Musk and stalled bills in the Senate.
“President Trump’s decision to send in the National Guard is excessive, reckless, and meant to stir tension,” Schumer said in remarks to The Hill. “He should withdraw the order and allow local officials, including the governor and mayor, to manage the response.”
But President Trump wasn’t having it—and neither are everyday Americans watching their cities burn.
Trump Defends His Decision: ‘We Saved Los Angeles from Total Destruction’
In a statement posted to Truth Social, President Trump called Schumer’s remarks “a lie to the American people.”
“Deploying the National Guard to handle the organized violence in California was absolutely the right call,” Trump stated. “Without that action, Los Angeles could have been devastated beyond repair.”
Trump emphasized that without federal intervention, the situation would have spiraled out of control. Law enforcement footage backs him up—videos show rioters throwing projectiles, damaging police vehicles, and setting fires, even in areas vulnerable to deadly wildfires.
California Leaders Slammed for Inaction
Trump also took aim at California’s Democrat leadership for failing to protect their own citizens.
“The totally unqualified Governor Gavin ‘Newscum’ and Mayor Karen Bass ought to be thanking President Trump,” he wrote. “But instead, they’re deceiving Californians and the entire country by calling these violent riots ‘peaceful protests.’”
The president didn’t mince words, calling the state’s leaders reckless and dangerously out of touch with reality.
Americans Back Trump’s Law-and-Order Agenda
Millions of Americans, especially seniors, veterans, and working families, support Trump’s firm response. While Democrat officials wring their hands, President Trump is doing what needs to be done—restoring order and standing with law enforcement.
“Just one look at the pictures and videos of the violence and destruction tells you all you need to know,” Trump said. “We will always do what is needed to keep our citizens safe so we can, together, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
