Trump Gets Bad News From Blue State Republicans

President Donald Trump is facing surprising political turbulence in one of America’s deepest blue states — and this time, the warning signs are coming from inside the Republican Party itself.

A newly released Siena University poll shows Trump’s favorability and job approval ratings slipping in New York, with the sharpest decline coming from Republican voters who have traditionally stood firmly behind the president.

The findings are raising new questions about voter enthusiasm heading into the critical 2026 midterm election cycle, where Republicans hope to expand their influence nationwide and continue advancing Trump’s America First agenda.

According to the survey, Trump’s overall favorability rating among New York voters now stands at 33% favorable and 64% unfavorable. His job approval rating also dipped to 34% approval and 64% disapproval.

While New York remains a heavily Democrat-controlled state, political analysts say the more important story is not Democratic opposition — which has remained consistent for years — but the noticeable decline in Republican support.

Siena pollster Steven Greenberg said the newest numbers reveal that Trump’s weakening support is being driven primarily by Republicans rather than independents or Democrats.

Among New York Republicans, Trump’s favorability rating reportedly dropped from 78% favorable in March to 65% favorable in the latest poll. His job approval numbers among GOP voters also saw a major decline, falling from 84% approval to 71%.

Even with the decline, Trump still maintains strong support among a majority of Republican voters. However, strategists on both sides of the political aisle closely monitor any signs of softness within a party’s core voter base.

For years, Trump’s political dominance has been fueled by intense loyalty from Republican voters across the country. Any measurable erosion — even in a Democrat-heavy state like New York — quickly attracts national attention.

New York politics remain deeply divided along ideological lines.

Democrats continue to oppose Trump overwhelmingly, with roughly 85% holding unfavorable views of the president. Independent voters also remain more negative than positive overall, although their views improved slightly compared to earlier polling.

The poll additionally revealed a major gender divide.

Male voters were considerably more supportive of Trump than female voters, continuing a trend that has appeared repeatedly in national and state polling over the past several years.

Despite the negative headlines, Trump and his allies are strongly rejecting the idea that polling reflects the true strength of his political movement.

During a recent interview with Newsmax, Trump argued that polls often underestimate his support, especially when he is not personally running on the ballot.

Trump said many Republicans believe the party would perform far better if he were directly involved in the race, adding that he still believes his support nationwide remains extremely strong.

Meanwhile, White House officials continue emphasizing Trump’s accomplishments rather than short-term polling fluctuations.

Administration officials point to economic growth efforts, immigration enforcement, energy policy, inflation reduction measures, and job creation initiatives as evidence that Trump’s agenda continues resonating with millions of Americans.

Supporters also argue that many mainstream media outlets selectively highlight unfavorable polling while ignoring broader enthusiasm among conservative voters nationwide.

Still, Republican strategists know that maintaining high voter energy inside the GOP base will be essential heading into 2026, especially as Democrats prepare aggressive campaigns in several battleground states.

The Siena poll may only reflect political attitudes inside New York, but it also offers a broader reminder of how quickly political momentum can shift — even for one of the most influential figures in modern American politics.

With the midterms approaching and the national political battle intensifying, every sign of movement inside the Republican coalition is likely to receive increased scrutiny in the months ahead.
