President Donald J. Trump pushed back hard against media claims that he directed the Justice Department to go after former FBI Director James Comey, ex–National Security Advisor John Bolton, or New York Attorney General Letitia James, saying any investigations are the natural result of corruption finally being exposed—not “political retribution.”
During a CBS “60 Minutes” interview, host Norah O’Donnell pressed the president on whether those cases were examples of revenge politics.
“You know who got indicted? The man you’re looking at,” Trump fired back. “I got indicted—and I was innocent.”
When O’Donnell repeated the question, Trump was direct.
“No, there was no need to tell them what to do,” Trump replied. “These people were so dishonest, so corrupt, and so crooked that the good, honest folks we have—like Pam Bondi and Kash Patel, who are doing tremendous work—took action on their own.”
The president’s comments echoed a September Truth Social post highlighted during the broadcast, where Trump blasted the lack of accountability for Comey, Adam ‘Shifty’ Schiff, and Letitia James:
“They’re completely guilty, yet no one is holding them accountable,” Trump wrote. “We can’t afford to wait any longer—it’s destroying our nation’s reputation and credibility. They went after me with two impeachments and five indictments for absolutely nothing. It’s time for real justice—right now!”
Trump’s remarks resonate with millions of Americans who believe the justice system has been weaponized against conservatives, while powerful Democrats and bureaucrats walk free. The president once again positioned himself as the outsider fighting the swamp—a message that continues to energize his base heading into the 2026 midterms.
