Former “Never Trump” Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) — one of President Trump’s fiercest critics — shocked CNN viewers on Thursday when he openly admitted that New York Attorney General Letitia James crossed a serious line by vowing to “go after” Trump long before seeing any evidence.
Appearing on Anderson Cooper 360, Kinzinger said bluntly, “Letitia James never should have made those comments. She never should have run on, ‘I’m going to go after him,’ before she’s seen the evidence. That was wrong — not illegal, but wrong.”
His rare admission came just hours after James herself was indicted for mortgage fraud and making false statements to a financial institution, in a stunning reversal that has rocked Democrats nationwide.
🔥 Letitia James Indicted After Years of Targeting Trump
The indictment was announced by Lindsey Halligan, the interim U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, appointed after President Trump expressed frustration that corrupt political actors were escaping accountability.
James — who built her career on prosecuting Trump’s businesses and bragging about it during her 2018 campaign — is accused of bank fraud and falsifying financial records. She immediately responded in a defiant video posted to X (formerly Twitter), calling the charges “baseless” and “political.”
“I am not fearful — I am fearless,” James said. “We will fight these charges aggressively.”
But critics say her fiery words can’t erase years of politicized prosecutions. During her 2018 victory speech, she declared she would “shine a bright light into every dark corner” of Trump’s real estate empire — a statement now being used against her as proof of political bias.
⚖️ CNN Admits It Looks Bad for the Left
Even CNN’s Anderson Cooper, no fan of Trump, was forced to admit it was “not a great look” for James to promise to “go after” a political opponent before even taking office.
“It’s not a great look for somebody who’s just been elected, who hasn’t even reviewed the evidence,” Cooper said.
CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin, however, tried to downplay it, arguing that “political statements” are part of how elected prosecutors campaign. But even Toobin conceded that her comments were “inappropriate.”
💥 Trump’s Crackdown on the ‘Weaponized’ Justice System
Letitia James’s downfall comes as President Trump’s Justice Department moves aggressively to clean house, bringing long-overdue accountability to corrupt officials who targeted his administration.
Earlier this month, former FBI Director James Comey was indicted for lying to Congress about investigations into Trump’s 2016 campaign. The Trump administration has also opened probes into Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), who played a central role in pushing the Russia hoax and the January 6th narrative.
In late September, President Trump instructed Attorney General Pam Bondi to pursue legal action against the three, posting on Truth Social:
“They’re all guilty as hell. We can’t delay any longer — it’s killing our credibility and our reputation.”
🇺🇸 Conservatives Say the Tide Is Finally Turning
For years, Trump supporters have warned that the justice system was being weaponized to destroy political opponents. Now, as Democrats like Letitia James face the same scrutiny they once unleashed on Trump, even critics like Kinzinger are acknowledging the truth.
The message from the Trump administration is clear: Justice is no longer one-sided.
