Trump wrecked Kamala so bad it appears she’s scared to go anywhere.
Kamala Harris, the former Vice President of the United States, was scheduled to attend the 97th Academy Awards, but plans reportedly changed at the last minute. A potential appearance at such a high-profile event would have been one of Harris’ most significant public engagements since President Donald Trump’s time in office. After her defeat in the 2024 presidential election, Harris has largely remained out of the public eye, making only occasional appearances.
Her most recent public appearance was at the NAACP Image Awards on February 22, where she was honored. Before that, her last major speaking engagement was a concession speech delivered at Howard University on November 6, following her electoral loss.
As the Oscars began, security around the Dolby Theatre was noticeably heightened, reportedly due to expectations surrounding the former Vice President’s attendance. An anonymous federal official stated that security levels had reached an all-time high, pointing to the “new evolving security environment” we live in. Another law enforcement official mentioned that Harris’ presence was a key factor in the increased security measures. However, soon after, it was reported that Harris had decided not to attend the event, with security concerns being cited as the reason.
While there was no official statement from Harris herself, her husband, Doug Emhoff, confirmed the change of plans with a post on X (formerly Twitter), sharing a picture of Harris preparing for an Oscars watch party at home. The post, which gained significant attention with millions of views, showed Harris casually preparing snacks for the evening.
Although this would have been her first appearance at the Oscars, Harris did attend the Vanity Fair Oscar Party back in 2015 while serving as California’s Attorney General. More recently, both she and former President Joe Biden signed a deal with Creative Artists Agency (CAA), which will likely result in more public engagements in the future. The deal, which covers multiple areas including publishing and speaking engagements, could mean that Harris may appear at more events in the coming months.
Despite her low profile since leaving office, Harris’ recent activities suggest that she may not remain out of the limelight for long. With her new partnership with CAA, the former Vice President could be positioning herself for a return to the national stage. Many Republicans remain wary of her future political ambitions, especially as she continues to leverage her celebrity connections and media presence.
