In a recent press conference, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt took aim at the Biden administration’s handling of inflation, pointing to skyrocketing prices across the board, including the rising cost of eggs. Leavitt, speaking candidly to the press, clarified that the inflationary pressures Americans are facing did not begin with the current administration. “In 2024, when Joe Biden was in office—whether he was working in the Oval Office or asleep upstairs—egg prices shot up by 65 percent,” Leavitt stated, highlighting the severity of the problem.
Egg prices have been a particular point of concern for families across the country, with prices continuing to climb due to a number of factors. One major cause is the ongoing bird flu outbreak, which has decimated U.S. poultry flocks since 2022. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has reported significant price hikes, with a dozen large, grade-A eggs costing an average of $4.16 in December, up from $3.60 the previous month. But the higher cost of eggs is only part of the broader inflation crisis.
Leavitt underscored the broader impact of inflation, saying, “Bacon, groceries, gasoline—everything has gone up because of the inflationary policies of the Biden administration.” These rising prices are hitting hard at a time when many Americans are already struggling with the cost of living. In fact, experts predict that egg prices will continue to rise through 2025, with projections showing an increase of up to 20 percent by year’s end.
Leavitt also pointed to Biden’s role in exacerbating the egg shortage by allowing the mass culling of over 100 million chickens to curb the spread of bird flu. This, she argued, has led directly to fewer eggs on the market and higher prices for consumers.
Adding fuel to the fire, several states have declared emergencies in response to severe winter weather, prompting more people to stock up on eggs and other essentials, further driving up demand.
Leavitt, the youngest press secretary in U.S. history, emphasized the importance of swift action to address these challenges. She called for the quick confirmation of President Trump’s nominees, including Brooke Rollins for the Department of Agriculture, who is already working with economic advisors to find solutions to the egg shortage and inflation crisis.
It’s clear that under the Biden administration, inflation has become a top issue for voters, contributing to growing frustration and uncertainty. Many argue that only through effective leadership and bold reforms—such as those proposed by President Trump—will the country be able to get inflation under control and ease the burden on everyday Americans.
