Some Republicans Want Josh Hawley To Run For 2028, Do You?

The 2028 presidential election may still be well down the road, but political speculation about the Republican Party’s future is already underway.

President Donald Trump currently occupies the White House and remains the central figure in Republican politics. Eventually, however, Republicans will have to decide who they believe is best positioned to carry the party’s agenda into its next chapter.

One name attracting attention in those conversations is Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley.

Hawley has developed a national reputation as a conservative Republican willing to challenge both Democrats and powerful institutions. He has been particularly outspoken on issues involving Big Tech, American workers, trade, corporate power and cultural debates.

That approach has helped Hawley build a following among Republicans who want the party to maintain the populist direction that has become increasingly influential during the Trump era.

Choosing a presidential candidate, however, involves more than agreeing with a politician’s positions.

Republican voters will eventually have to consider experience, electability, leadership, foreign policy, economic priorities and whether a potential nominee can bring together different parts of the GOP coalition. They will also have to decide what elements of Trump’s political movement they want the party to continue after his presidency.

Hawley would almost certainly face competition if he ever decided to seek the Republican presidential nomination. There are numerous nationally known Republican governors, senators and administration figures who could potentially become contenders.

Much can change before the 2028 campaign seriously gets underway, and speculation today doesn’t guarantee who will ultimately enter the race.

Still, some Republicans are already interested in seeing Hawley make a run for the White House.
