The search for President Donald Trump’s next White House press secretary is generating plenty of speculation, and one prominent conservative commentator is now publicly promoting a familiar Trump ally for the high-profile position.
MAGA influencer Benny Johnson suggested Monday that former Trump attorney Alina Habba would be a strong choice to replace outgoing White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.
“The people want @AlinaHabba in the briefing room,” Johnson wrote while sharing a clip from his recent interview with Habba.
Johnson then put the question directly to her, asking whether she would accept the press secretary position if Trump offered it.
Habba’s answer left little doubt.
“Do I think I could do it? Absolutely,” Habba said.
The longtime Trump ally explained that she has spent years serving as one of the president’s most visible defenders and believes that experience has prepared her for the demanding communications role.
Habba Says She Would Serve If Trump Asked
During the interview, Johnson acknowledged that he did not know whom Trump planned to select. He nevertheless told Habba that her name had surfaced amid the ongoing discussion over Leavitt’s successor.
Habba said she has long viewed serving the country as an honor and would be willing to take another role if Trump believed she was the right person for the job.
She also pointed to her extensive experience speaking publicly on Trump’s behalf.
Habba became a nationally recognized figure while serving as Trump’s attorney and regularly appeared on television to discuss his legal battles and defend him against his political critics.
That background could make her a natural fit for a job centered on communicating the president’s agenda and answering questions from the White House press corps.
Habba acknowledged, however, that taking the position would come with significant personal considerations.
Like Leavitt, she has a family and said she has enjoyed spending more time away from the intense public spotlight.
But there is one circumstance that could change her plans.
“If the president called me and asked me, of course I would do it,” Habba said.
Habba Places Decision In Trump’s Hands
Habba emphasized that she trusts Trump to determine who is best suited to represent his administration from the White House briefing room.
She said the president understands what his administration and the American people need and indicated that she would respect his decision regardless of whom he ultimately chooses.
Habba also acknowledged her long-standing loyalty to Trump, joking that she has a difficult time turning him down when he asks her to serve.
Her relationship with Trump stretches back years and has taken her from private legal practice to positions connected to his administration and the Justice Department.
For Habba, that experience has apparently left the door open to another major role in Washington.
Habba Previously Pushed Back On Rumors
Her latest comments mark an interesting development after she publicly dismissed speculation about the press secretary position earlier in August.
Prediction markets had previously placed Habba among the potential candidates to succeed Leavitt.
Habba responded to the speculation on social media on Aug. 19.
“Flattered by the Kalshi odds, but I’m not in the running for any job,” she wrote.
She also joked that if she was being considered for another position, she would like the anonymous sources discussing it to tell her first.
At the time, her comments appeared to pour cold water on reports that she was actively pursuing the position.
Her latest interview provides an important distinction: Habba says she is not campaigning for the job, but she would accept it if Trump personally asked her to serve.
Trump Has Yet To Announce Leavitt’s Replacement
The speculation comes as the White House considers who should follow Leavitt in one of the administration’s most visible positions.
Leavitt announced earlier in August that she was leaving her position after returning from maternity leave, explaining that she wanted to devote more time to raising her two young children. Trump has indicated that Leavitt will remain involved as an outside adviser.
As of Monday, Trump had not publicly announced a permanent successor, leaving Washington insiders and conservative commentators debating who could be next.
Habba is not the only name that has surfaced during that discussion. Other potential candidates have also been floated publicly as the administration considers its next move.
Why Habba Could Appeal To Trump’s Base
Habba already has something that many potential candidates would need time to build: widespread name recognition among Trump supporters.
She became one of Trump’s most aggressive public defenders during his legal battles and developed a reputation for confronting criticism of the president directly.
For conservative voters frustrated with what they view as hostile coverage of the Trump administration, that willingness to challenge the national media could make Habba an appealing choice for the briefing room.
The press secretary position requires more than delivering prepared statements. The person behind the podium must explain administration policy, respond to breaking developments and regularly face questioning from some of the country’s largest news organizations.
Habba’s years of television appearances and experience defending Trump under intense scrutiny would give her an unusual background for the job.
Whether Trump agrees remains another question.
For now, Johnson is publicly making the case for Habba, while Habba herself is making it clear that she would answer the call if the president decides he wants her behind the White House podium.
The final decision belongs to Trump — and until he announces his choice, speculation over Leavitt’s replacement is likely to continue.
