President Donald Trump is once again making his case directly to Hispanic voters as Republicans prepare for the upcoming midterm elections. The Hispanic electorate has become increasingly important in American politics, with both Republicans and Democrats competing aggressively for support in communities that could help determine control of Congress.
Trump and his Republican allies have spent years arguing that the GOP’s positions on the economy, border security, public safety, energy, small businesses, and traditional values can appeal to a growing number of Hispanic Americans. Republicans made notable gains with Hispanic voters during recent election cycles, although that support remains highly competitive and can vary considerably by state, age, economic circumstances, and national political conditions.
Recent polling suggests the competition is far from settled. A September 2026 survey of Latino registered voters in competitive House districts found Democrats holding an advantage on the congressional ballot, while economic concerns ranked highly among voters’ priorities. That provides an important reminder that Hispanic Americans are a diverse voting population rather than a single political bloc.
Trump nevertheless continues to argue that Hispanic voters would benefit from Republican leadership. Supporters of that message may point to issues such as jobs, taxes, entrepreneurship, immigration enforcement, religious liberty, and family values. Critics may counter that Republican immigration policies and other administration priorities could push some Hispanic voters toward Democratic candidates.
With control of Congress at stake in November, both parties have strong incentives to persuade Hispanic Americans that their policies offer the better path forward.
Ultimately, Hispanic voters will make that decision individually at the ballot box.
