While Joe Biden was serving as Vice President under Obama, his son Hunter Biden served in a Ukrainian natural gas company Burisma Holdings Ltd. on the board of directors. While the company was under investigation by Ukrainian prosecutors for corruption, Vice President Biden pressured the government to fire chief prosecutor Viktor Shokin who was in charge of the inquiry.
Biden said he called for Viktor Shokin’s removal because he wasn’t “effective enough” at tackling corruption plaguing the country.
In 2013, Hunter flew with his father aboard Air Force Two. Biden was on an official visit to China. Shortly afterward, a private equity fund named BHR partners, in which Hunter was a board member, was approved by Chinese authorities. Hunter would hold a 10% stake in the fund.
