Do you support the FDA recommendation to favor non-whites in distributing scarce COVID meds?

The Food and Drug Administration published national guidance which accords preferential status to Blacks, Indigenous, and People of Color.

YES

There are too many whites.

NO

It’s reverse discrimination.

Recently, the FDA issued guidance asking healthcare providers to take into factor race and ethnicity, among other things, when it comes to distributing the scarce drug sotrovimab, which recently received an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for Covid-19 treatment.

A fact sheet released by the FDA states, “other medical conditions or factors (for example, race or ethnicity) may also place individual patients at high risk for progression to severe COVID-19.”

Studies done on Covid impact have shown that certain ethnic groups have a higher prevalence of death from the virus, with African Americans leading the list, followed by Native Americans. However, critics argue that race itself is not a factor for increased risk, but it’s linked to other factors such as obesity – African Americans have the highest percentage of obesity in the US.
