Punxsutawney Phil woke up and saw his little shadow, scurrying back to his hole and signaling additional weeks of winter.
YES
Woke, saw the sunlight, and went back to sleep.
NO
Afraid of its own shadow, it keeps repeating the same old routine
Punxsutawney Phil is a groundhog from Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania that is part of the annual Groundhog Day that takes place on Feb 2 each year. Phil plays an important part in this festival – he is responsible for predicting whether the winter will end or continue for six more weeks. When Phil emerges from his winter home, if he sees his own shadow and goes back to his hole that means there will be 6 more weeks of winter. If he does not see his shadow that means there will be an early spring.
This annual ceremony has been celebrated since 1887, with the organizers insisting that Phil is the same groundhog that has taken part in the ceremony for more than a century. They also insist the accuracy of Phil’s prediction is near 100%. However, the actual accuracy is somewhere between 35% and 41%.
The prediction for 2022 was that winter will last 6 more weeks!
